The New York International School is opening on NY’s Upper East Side. The PreK-8 school will be located in a landmark building at 4 East 90th street, adjacent to Central Park and the Guggenheim Museum. The school will be offering international education for American and international children aged 2-13. NYIS is established by The British Schools Foundation, one of the leading international school organizations, with a global network of schools spanning 3 continents and 10 cities. The school is independent, coeducational and non-denominational.

NYIS’ curriculum combines the highest academic standards and an innovative dual language immersion program in either Spanish or Mandarin Chinese. Its advanced and challenging curriculum will enable children develop literacy and numeracy skills at an earlier age, and attain their full academic potential. It integrates the American curriculum and an international vision, ensuring that students can progress to top schools and universities in the US and anywhere in the world.

Approximately two thirds of instruction will be done in English and one third in either Spanish or Chinese with highly qualified native teachers, with second language instruction beginning as early as age 2. The global experience and language program will be enhanced with an international peer program which will allow lower school students to develop relationships with students at BSF sister schools in Spain and China and with a future international exchange program for older students.

The New York International School combines modern and innovative pedagogy with traditional values, within a warm and stimulating environment that fosters student participation and critical thinking. Small class sizes limited to a maximum between 10 and 16 with both a head teacher and a teacher assistant per class help reach a low student-teacher ratio and provide a child-centered and personalized education.
