Rachel Begun Joins NYC Firm Schools Blog as a Contributor

We are excited to announce that Rachel Begun, MS, RD, CDN, Principal of Rachel Begun Nutrition Communications, a food and nutrition communications consulting group, will join the NYC Firm Schools Blog as a regular contributor in the areas of food, culinary and nutrition education.

Rachel Begun, MS, RD, CDN is a registered dietitian and accomplished food and nutrition communications professional. She provides food and nutrition marketing, communications, education and spokesperson expertise to food companies, retailers and foodservice/hospitality providers, as well as to schools, camps and health organizations. Rachel also educates the public via speaking opportunities, webinars and writing for publications, including her own blog, The Gluten Free RD. As a registered dietitian with Celiac Disease, she specializes in gluten-free/allergy-friendly education and counsel.

Rachel’s passion for teaching children, parents and school communities about food and nutrition began during her role as the first nutrition specialist for Flik Independent School Dining, a foodservice provider serving more than 125 independent school communities across the nation, including 18 throughout New York City. In her role, she began building Flik’s nutrition platform for adhering to the highest food and nutrition foodservice standards, providing nutrition education to school communities, including the foodservice management teams, and being a facilitator for school communities to develop their unique food and nutrition philosophies based on the needs of its members. Rachel now provides food and nutrition communications consulting services to Flik Independent School Dining.

Ms. Begun is actively involved in various food and nutrition communities. She is a proud member of the American Dietetic Association, serving on the Executive Committee for the Dietitians in Business and Communications Dietary Practice Group and being a member of the Food and Culinary Professionals and Nutrition Entrepreneurs Dietetic Practice Groups. Rachel is also on the Board of Directors for Harvest Home Farmer’s Market, a network of 16 farmer’s markets serving low income neighborhoods throughout New York City and is an “Ask the Dietitian” advisor for the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness.

Rachel graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Emory University in Atlanta, GA with a B.A. in Biology and a concentration in pre-medical studies. She earned her M.S. degree in Nutrition Education from Teachers College, Columbia University and completed her internship for registered dietitian certification there as well.

Rachel loves to travel, cook and is an avid tennis and baseball fan. She lives in Rye Brook, New York with her husband, Darren.
