Formerly known as Gani Preschool, the 14th Street Y Preschool is an early childhood education center that is located in the East Village in the heart of New York City.
The school is open to children ages 2.4 to 5 years. What distinguishes the 14th Street Y Preschool from other preschools is that it offers programs from birth through early childhood with special programs for expecting mothers.
The philosophy of the 14th Street Y Preschool is based on a combination of Reggio Emilia and Bank Street educational approaches. Faculty like to create learning opportunities that make children think about themselves and the world around them. The staff weave together Jewish values and traditions and state-approved age-appropriate curriculum.
Two year olds have a choice between a 2-day program, 3-day program, and 5-day program. Each program is a half day.
Three year olds choose between a 3-day or 5-day half-day program, or optionally they can choose an extended day program Monday through Friday.
Four year olds have a half-day and extended-day program that runs Monday through Friday.
One other difference between 14th Street Y Preschool and other preschool programs is that the faculty will work with parents to toilet train the children so they do not have to be toilet trained to enter the program.
