On West 88th Street in the heart of New York City is a Spanish international Montessori school by the name of Amiguitos.

Amiguitos International Montessori Day School is a preschool for children ages 2 through 4 years old.

If you are looking for a bilingual Upper West Side preschool for your young child, you can’t find any better than Amiguitos Montessori Day School. Lessons are taught in both English and Spanish. Children learn to read and write in both languages. The school has programs for toddlers and preschoolers.

When a child first enters the program, parents are invited to stay in the classroom to help with the child’s transition to the school environment and to ease the separation anxiety than can exist in some children. Parents are also invited on field trips and to volunteer in the classroom.

The school day begins with reading time, which is followed by circle time. In circle time, students practice the alphabet in English and Spanish and sing Spanish songs. Other subjects are also talked about.

Throughout the day children also experience a variety of activities, work time, and playground. Full-day students have lunch and take a nap in the afternoon.

Emphasis is on language development and cognitive learning. Education is play-based and students learn about time and space, mathematics, reasoning, music, visual arts, and much more. The director recommends students attend at least three days a week to get the most out of the Montessori program.
