Focus On Beansprouts Nursery School

by NYC Firm Schools on February 21, 2012

Beansprouts Nursery school has been serving the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn since 1980. Started by Sue Weinstein, this current executive director served as head teacher until her promotion in 1989. That gives the school extra longevity and stability.

This preschool program has a lot to offer parents and children of Brooklyn. It begins with a developmentally appropriate curriculum for children that assists with development of cognitive skills, physical skills, emotional skills, and social skills in a safe environment. The staff is well trained and experienced at working with young children. And it is well organized with sensible policies and procedures in place.

The “developmentally appropriate” program focuses on two areas:

  • Age appropriateness
  • and Individual appropriateness

This approach ensures that each child receives the instruction he or she needs to help them develop according to the natural growth patterns of all children at the targeted age level and that each child is treated as a unique individual with his or her own personal needs.

Beansprouts offers the following educational programs:

  1. 5-day a week program for 2, 3, and 4 year olds
  2. 3-day a week program for 2 and 3 year olds
  3. 2-day a week program for 2 and 3 year olds
  4. 3-day a week half-day program for 2 and 3 year olds
  5. 2-day a week half-day program for 2 and 3 year olds
  6. 5-day a week afternoon program
  7. Early Bird Program
  8. After School Program

Children must be 2 years 3 months old to enter Beansprouts Nursery School. Children are introduced to some fun music while at Beansprouts and teachers try to make the entire curriculum enjoyable and fun since that is when children learn best.

At the beginning of each school year, teachers visit children and parents in their homes in order to make a smooth transition into nursery school.
