The Amity School in Brooklyn is well known for its strong academic programs. A K-12 school, they have programs for preschoolers (including a day care center), elementary school students, middle school students, and high schoolers.
The early childhood education program consists of a day care center for young children, including a preschool, pre-kindergarten, and kindergarten.
All classes are kept small to maximize individual attention. Teachers are certified in early childhood education and students receive plenty of positive reinforcement to build their self-esteem.
The preschool is designed for children ages 3 and 4. Children sing songs, hear stories, play games, and participate in art projects to help lay the foundation for language, critical thinking, and skill development for literacy and early foundational learning.
Pre-kindergarten class is set up for 4 and 5 year olds. They learn to read and write the alphabet, recognize the sounds of letters and their order in the line up. They also learn to spell their names and three letter words.
Five and six year olds in kindergarten are ready to write. They focus on early literacy skills that include letter recognition, letter and sound relationship, and writing skills. They also learn good communication skills including language and speech while preparing to study math in elementary school.
