Brooklyn Heights Montessori School is the only accredited preschool-8th grade Montessori school in New York City. But that’s not the only reason the school is special. They’ve recently announced that they are expanding facilities and programs for students.
They just purchased an adjacent property located at 12 Dean Street, which was a fire patrol station. The real estate acquisition will add 11,000 more square feet to the school’s property.
That’s a big expansion, but school officials note that it is necessary to keep up with growing demand for the Montessori method of education. It seems that more parents are seeking out a Montessori education for their children and Brooklyn Heights being one of the most prominent schools in New York City, that means they are poised to increase their student body in the next few years, so expansion is in order.
The Montessori education model is gaining widespread recognition as one of the best ways to prepare students for the 21st century due to articles that have been printed in prominent news magazines like Harvard Business Review, Forbes, and the Wall Street Journal.
Many prominent members of society were educated in Montessori schools and some prominent entrepreneurs such as Jeff Bezos of Amazon and the founders of Google have publicly credited their Montessori background for giving them the critical thinking skills that have led to their success.
Brooklyn Heights Montessori School got its start in 1965. It has grown into quite a school.
