Children’s Learning Center at Morningside Heights

by NYC Firm Schools on May 17, 2010

“Our mission at Children’s Learning Center is to create a safe environment, encourage involvement, and facilitate the education of our children, families, school, and community.”

The Children’s Learning Center at Morningside Heights (located at 90 LaSalle Street, New York) was founded in 1976 and the administrators believe that it is vital for children to learn through play and at their own pace. Curricula are created and geared specifically for individual children so they may create and discover the world through their own eyes and not someone else’s. Art, science, music, social studies, cooking, sand and water play are some of the activities in which the children of all three classrooms participate.

The three classrooms consist of the Red Room, the Yellow Room and the Purple Room. Yellow is for infants and toddlers, Red is for two’s and three’s, and the Purple Room is for three’s and four’s. They are located within the verdant Morningside Gardens Housing Complex. Riverside and Sakura Parks are nearby and the school makes good use of them for outside play. For fun in cooking, each classroom comes equipped with a fully functional kitchen.

The Center’s hours are 8:30 to 5:30. We offer an early morning drop off (8:00) to a limited number of families. Children may enroll for:

  • Morning Sessions (8:30-2:00)
  • Full Session (8:30-3:30)
  • Extended Session (8:30-5:30)
  • Children may enroll for three, four, or five days a week, or for different schedules on different days of the week. We do not offer “drop in” care.

If you live in the area and have a pre-kindergarten child, visit the school and discover for yourself what it can do for your child.
