Columbus Park West Nursery School

by NYC Firm Schools on May 18, 2010

Columbus Park West Nursery School, located on the upper west side of Manhattan, is a progressive pre-school program that focuses on the importance of guiding their students to become effective members of the community, helping children build self esteem and individuality.

The school offers a short day program and a full day program. A short day runs from 8:45 am to 1:00 pm, and the long day runs from 8:45 am to 2:30 pm. Short days are designed for 3-year olds who are new to school schedules. Their day consists of unstructured play times and other fun activities mixed with structured “meetings” and projects in order to allow your child a chance to get accustomed to school in an easy and unburdened pace.

Older children stay for an extended afternoon. The full day program prepares your child for Kindergarten by offering more extensive structured activities such as block building, measuring and graphs.

Specialty Classes

Although CPWN emphasizes a play based curriculum, opportunities for the development of specialized skills in a semi-structured enviroment are critical to the overall learning process. Our specialty classes enhance self-regulation, attention and cognitive skills that young children need. We are currently offering three weekly specialty classes – Spanish, Movement and Art.

The curriculum at Columbus Park West Nursery School is varied and encourages individual problem solving. The curriculum emphasizes authentic science, math, social studies and language experiences that are woven throughout themes and projects tailored to the student’s interests.
