Holy Cross Church was founded in 1852 and has grown into one of the most well known churches in New York City. The Catholic parish is well known for serving two well known areas of Manhattan – “The Crossroads Of The World” and “Hell’s Kitchen.”
Holy Cross School is a parish school that educates pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The school currently enrolls 300 students from a wide variety of families and cultural backgrounds. More than 20 languages are spoken by the families with children in the Holy Cross School.
Public school students in kindergarten through sixth grade interested in studying at Holy Cross School may apply for the Cardinal’s Scholarship Program. A new round of scholarships is offered every year to increase the enrollment in Catholic schools in the city. Families who would not otherwise be able to experience an education at Holy Cross School have the opportunity to enroll in a Catholic private school and take advantage of the best academic program coupled with a sound spiritual development program.
Students at Holy Cross School participate in Mass and are taught the sacraments. They also have opportunities to perform community service.
Holy Cross School (Times Square) is in need of help from the community. On January 20, 2011 a press release went out that Holy Cross would merge with “at risk” school Sacred Heart Of Jesus (52nd Street). Many parents are distraught over this decision and do not want to see Holy Cross close to merge with another school. As a parent of a student that attends Holy Cross I was completely taken back by the news. The Holy Cross community was NEVER notified this could be an option since our school was NOT at risk.
Please help save HOLY CROSS SCHOOL!!!!!
