Focus On La Petite Ecole

by NYC Firm Schools on February 13, 2012

La Petite Ecole, located on West 82nd Street in Manhattan, is a preschool established to give young children an early start in the study of the French language and culture. The lessons are designed to develop verbal, social, motor, and critical thinking skills. The curriculum is an arts-based curriculum that gets children to thinking creatively and interacting with each other in powerful, positive ways.

The instructors at La Petite Ecole are native French speakers who facilitate a hands-on approach to practical arts-related lessons. Visiting artists are incorporated into the curriculum as much as possible.

La Petite Ecole is open to children 2-1/2 to 4 years old. Children are taught through individual and collaborative activities that build confidence. They are engaged through mathematics, language literacy, and science objectives. Teachers engage them through personal conversation, writing, counting, hypothesizing, measuring, identifying, and expanding their knowledge of other cultures.

La Petite Ecole also offers after school enrichment classes for children ages 5 through 10. All classes are taught in French and the homework is administered in French.

There is also an afternoon enrichment program for early childhood learners from 2-1/2 to 4 years old.

Additionally, children ages 4 to 6 can enroll in summer camp at the school. Students go on sight-seeing tours and learn all about French culture and language including Franco-American culture.

Students interested in enrolling at La Petite Ecole must apply online, attend a school information meeting, and participate in a preschool student interview. There is a discount for early registration and some programs offer a sibling discount.
