Focus On Our Lady Star Of The Sea School

by NYC Firm Schools on November 14, 2010

Our Lady Star Of The Sea School is an extension of the Our Lady Star Of The Sea Roman Catholic parish located in the Huguenot section of Staten Island, NYC. The school admits students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.

Our Lady Star Of The Sea got its start in 1959 with 500 students enrolled from kindergarten through eighth grade. Since then the parish has added a pre-kindergarten program. Pre-K and kindergarten students entering the school will need to submit a birth certificate, baptism records, and an application fee. Prospective students applying for grades 1 through 6 will need to submit a transcript of grades and standardized test scores.

Students are expected to participate in prayers and sacraments. Students are encouraged to attend Mass every Sunday and Holy Days of Obligation. Starting in Grade 2, students will receive Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist. Students in Grade 8 are confirmed according to the Roman Catholic tradition.

The school’s educational philosophy places Jesus as the central authority figure in the classroom. Education at Our Lady Star Of The Sea School can be summed up in these words:

Jesus is the head of this school,
the unseen Teacher in every classroom,
the silent Listener to every lesson.

Moral integrity is stressed as much as academic performance and students are encouraged to develop a spirit of Christian joy.

Our Lady Star Of The Sea church and school are a part of the Archdiocese of New York.
